GIANT Step in Right Direction

GIANT Step in Right Direction

The sport where coaching has the biggest impact is clearly football , that was never more evident than during Sunday’s Giants game. Brian Daboll wins his head coaching debut shocking a very good Titans team 20-19 and for the first time in 6 years the NY Football Giants win their opening game. The two big stars in this one were Saquon Barkley and Brian Daboll.

Barkley had 168 yards on the ground. The Number 2 overall pick  was a monster.  One of the biggest plays in the game was a 68 yard momentum changing run which reinvigorated the entire team.

Sometimes in sports you need that one play that changes everything and Saquon did just that.

He scored on a 4 yard run to bring the Giants within a touchdown 13-6. Later in the game, he had another big run getting the ball knocked out but thankfully it went out of bounds and set the Giants, and Barkley up to take the lead, Barkley later scored a touchdown which brought the Giants within a point at 20-19 with just over a minute to play

Then came the play that will endear Daboll to the Big blue faithful . Most coaches

would take the safe route, kick the extra point and tie the game. Not Brian Daboll who  decided he was playing to win not to lose.  Barkley takes a shovel pass and gets the two point conversion , 21-20  Giants. I , like most Giants fans loved the call but Tennessee would have another chance and with the help of a couple of defensive holding penalties and a catch by Kyle Phillips the Titans were in good shape had the ball at the Giants 27 yard line This is where Mike Vrabel screwed up, he made a questionable  decision by not giving the ball to Derrick Henry on third and short which made no sense, he still had one timeout left. How about throwing a short pass up the middle complete it call time out and make it a easier kick for Randy Bullock, instead,he uses the entire play clock has to burn his last timeout and kneels down, and actually loses yardage. Sometimes  I wonder why these coaches make the decisions they make involving clock management.

After the Giants ice Bullock with a timeout, he missed wide left and it was celebration time in music city.

It’s only one game but from the start you can tell there’s a difference  with this football team The Giants of the past 7 years would have lost this game and would be hanging their heads, but not this team, and with  the next 3 games at home against Carolina, a winnable game against Dallas on Monday night, especially with Dak now sidelined with a broken hand and then the Bears the following week this is an opportunity for the Giants to get off to a good start and of course that is imperative in any nfl season. Giants fans, celebrate this win because it was a stunner no doubt, and wins in this league are not easy to come by
